First, log into your NicSRS account, purchase the product, fill out application information on the detail page and submit, then the verification process starts. Similar to requesting Sectigo OV/EV SSL certificates, to obtain your DigiCert/GeoTrust OV or EV SSL certificates, you’re also required to complete validation of domain ownership and organization (company) information.

Domain Validation

There are three ways to complete domain control validation. For more details, please refer to How to Complete Domain Control Valdation (DCV) When Requesting an SSL Certificate.

● Email validation – Choose a WHOIS registered email or one of the five constructed email addresses to receive the validation email, and click the link provided in the email to confirm and complete the validation.

● DNS validation: Add a TXT record to the domain’s DNS.

● File validation: Host a file containing a DigiCert/GeoTrust generated random value (provided after the cert application is submitted) at a predetermined location on your website: http://yourdomain.com/.well-known/pki-validation/fileauth.txt

Organization Validation

OV and EV SSL certificates generally go through the same validation process, with only slight differences in the issuance process and issuance time.

● OV SSL certificate: Issued in 1-3 working days

● EV SSL certificate: Issued in 1-5 working days

After submitting the certificate request, the CA (Certificate Authority) will first review the applicant’s authenticity, and will also conduct telephone verification to confirm the information submitted: the company name, the domain that was submitted with the order, whether the company has requested the certificate, the requested certificate type and name, years of validity, etc.

The CA mainly consults trusted third-party databases or platforms to verify the legal existence of the organization included in the certificate order, and also uses a publicly listed phone number for telephone verification.

● Local government registration

● Google Maps

● The contact number on the website (the website should display organization name and can be accessed normally)

● Dun & Bradstreet

An OV SSL certificate will be issued after both domain validation and organization validation are completed. The issuance of an EV SSL certificate may take slightly longer as you may need to confirm an online agreement or fill out some information. You’ll receive emails from the CA, and NicSRS support team will also follow up in time to assist you to complete the validation.
