Different from requesting a DV SSL certificate, which only needs to verify domain ownership, requesting OV and EV SSL certificates will also require verifying the applicant’s business credentials. This article will introduce how to order an OV/EV SSL certificate on NicSRS.

1. Purchase a certificate + submit application

Log into your NicSRS account, select the SSL certificate you need, complete payment, and enter the certificate request page. Follow the prompts to fill in the information fields from top to bottom to generate CSR (if you don’t already have one) and save the key, then click on the Submit button.

For more details, please refer to How to Request a DV SSL Certificates on NicSRS. The application steps for EV/OV SSL certificates are mostly the same as those for DV SSL certificates, except for the additional organization validation.

2. Domain validation & organization verification

Domain Validation: DV, OV and EV SSL certificates all require domain name validation. After submitting the request, you’ll find the information you need to complete domain validation. For more details, please refer to How to Complete Domain Control Validation (DCV) When Applying for an SSL Certificate.

Organization Validation: In addition to the standard domain validation, the CA will also verify that the organization is a legal, legitimate entity if you apply for an OV/EV SSL certificate. After submitting the certificate request, the CA will usually call the number associated with the organization on the same day or the next day. Please inform the relevant personnel not to miss the call. The telephone validation mainly confirms the information you've submitted: the company name, the domain that's submitted with the order, whether the company has requested the certificate, the requested certificate type and name, years of validity, etc. When applying for an EV SSL certificate, some certificate brands may also require applicants to fill in some additional agreement documents to further verify the company and application information.

3. Certificate issuance

After completing the above validations, the OV SSL certificate will usually be issued within a few hours. You can check the email inbox, or download the certificate when your order status becomes Issued on NicSRS.

The review takes slightly longer for EV SSL certificates. Some brands, such as Sectigo, will also conduct a secondary review (internally by the CA, without the need for customers to do anything else). Generally, the certificate will be issued within one day after all validations are completed.
